Give Your Chickens a Boost
Chickens are the cactus of the farm. All they need is clean water, food, and a patch of ground to scratch around. In return they fill all of my egg baskets. If you are thinking about growing your own food chickens are a good way to start! We got our new flock back in Feb. and its about time to do their bi-yearly boost!
Around spring and fall time I like to give our chickens a boost. April and October of every year I gather the supplies.
Garlic Granules, Cayenne Pepper, and Flax Seed Oil
Thats it! Supper easy to mix into your chickens feed in the morning.
There are many articles out there explaining the benifits of garlic…. for everything! It’s something I use around the farm daily.
I like to give it to our chickens as a way to boost their immune systems and help aid in balancing any bad bacteria they might have picked (or pecked) up.
Cayenne Pepper acts as a natural dewormer. I’ve done this for many years on our flocks of chickens and seen it work wonders! In the colder months it can be added to water to help warm up your chickens. You also might get a boost in egg production too!
Flax Seed Oil works as a binder as well as a boost of omega 3. I’ve heard of some chicken keepers adding flax seed oil to their chickens feed year round. If you don’t have flax seed oil you could used olive oil or melted coconut oil.
Here is my supper easy ratios I go by
4 heaping TBLS of garlic granules, 2 heaping TBLS of Cayenne Pepper, and 5-6 TBLS Flax Seed Oil mixed into 5lbs of feed.
Depending on how much chicken feed you feed daily you can adjust accordingly. You really can’t mess this up.
Our Chickens always gobble it all up with no problem!
